ARacer Flash ECM Guide
This guide MUST be used when installing an ARacer for 2017+ models for the Honda Grom.
Reworking the ECM pinout is no longer required but you MUST FLASH the ECM accordingly.
In order to flash the ECM, you must have the iLINK cable. When ordering a unit through us, please let us know if your Grom is 2017 or later. I’ll assume you’ve got your RC MINI PLUS 2 installed correctly! No matter what year you have, any ARacer unit will start your bike but you may or may not have an RPM signal. The easiest way to tell is if your Tachometer is working. If it’s not, well you’ve got to flash your ECM to the correct year.
Preparation
- Download – Get the MiniPlus2 & Mini4c Flash Tool here.
- Launch the Software – When launching the software, make sure you’re selecting the appropriate ECM. In this case, we’re going to update our RC MINI PLUS 2.
- Update Database – Connect to ARacer’s cloud server and update your database with the latest maps. Included in the update will be 4 base maps for the Grom (MSX125) for both 125cc and 170cc engines. ARacer is a Taiwanese product and is usually tested with Koso, another Taiwanese product, hence the 170cc base map.
- Installation – Assuming you’ve installed the Aracer correctly, you MUST also have the iLINK cable installed as well.
Flash ECM
Step 1) Link ECM
Your ECM and Computer will not be communicating at this time (on the bottom of the screen you will see an area where it will state the status of the ECM. In this case, it says “OFF-Line”). You MUST turn your Grom ignition to the “ON” position. On your computer, click on the “LINK” button on the top command bar.
Step 2) Select Your Map
Assuming you’ve done Step 1 correctly, the bottom area will now say “ON-Line”. The left root menu will change. For this tutorial we want to update our 2017 Grom with the latest map. 2016 Grom does not exist in USA but does exist in Asia/Europe. 2016 and up is the “SF” model so this is what we’re going to use. Select HONDA > MSX125 > 2016 MSX125 (125cc).
Step 3) Confirm Flash
Click the “PROGRAM” button on the top command bar then click on “OK” in this confirmation modal to start. Do NOT disconnect your computer from the ECM, turn off your bike, or anything at this point.
Step 4) Flash In Progress
There will be a green progress bar at the top indicating the completion percentage. Again, DO NOT DO ANYTHING at this point until the flash has been complete!
Step 5) Flash Complete
A confirmation message will appear. Click “OK”. Turn the bike completely off and turn it back on again.
Step 6) Test Bike
Start the bike and it should fire up immediately. One way of testing if you’ve got the correct map is that your RPM displays correctly on the gauge. One difference between the OG and SF Grom’s is the RPM Signal.
